Kidd Springs Lake circa 1908
Before Oak Cliff became a part of Dallas, the community debated about using Kidd Springs as a water supply. It was thought an infinite supply of water could be had if only an artesian well could access the source. Questions remained about the chemical content of the water, and I can find no mention of actual drilling of a well. In the early 1900s Kidd Springs was a popular place for picnics, and it is often mentioned as a destination of Dallas society. People began building homes in the verdant area, and in 1921 the city of Dallas decided to annex the community of Kidd Springs Heights.

Postcard reads: This is an outdoor community music centre, known as the Court of Music. The Little Church, representing your church and mine, was suggested to the planner of the Park by Arnold’s song, “Little Old Church in the Valley.” Music comes from the Waterfalls and Church. Many visitors come from far and near each month. Thousands gather here each Easter for sunrise services.
I seem to remember the music coming from the little stone church, but not the rest of the garden, but it’s been awhile since I visited the place, and some of those were nocturnal excursions so things looked different. (sshhh, don’t tell the ghosts I’m still here)
